Forest Preserve Lake Fishing Report: Kayaked and fished with my youngest son early evening until dark. Fished a pearl Lucky Craft Sammy 85 across the surface. The largemouth bite was on! I boated 13 bass in two and a half hours. Was a nice outing close to home and great to spend some time together in the outdoors.

Forest Preserve Lake Fishing Report: I took my youngest son kayaking and fishing Sunday evening for a few hours before sunset. The water was very murky from the recent rains but overall the bass bite was great. We ended up boating twelve largemouth bass in two hours. My son gobbled up most of our snacks and kept me on my toes with inquisitive conversation. He tried hard at fishing, casting a 5" double-tail Yamamoto Hula Grub from his Spider Man push-button combo. He could care less about bluegills and always wants to try for "the big one!" He is getting the hang of casting and I told him to keep the bait tight to the rock ledges and let it sink deep. Toward the end of the night he cast up on top of the rock wall and his line got a bit tangled. As we were untangling it, we found that his line was completely sideways from the kayak and he had a fish on. He set the hook and started reeling and he had a nice largemouth which gave him quite a fight. He reeled it all the way in, with the rod tip practically going all the way into the fish's mouth! I lipped it for him and it turned out to be a 17.75" largemouth. It took some coaxing for him to hold it but he finally agreed to a gentle underbelly hold with both hands. Wouldn't you know it ... as soon as I got out my camera the fish flopped but I got two great photos of the little guy! My biggest largemouth was 19.75"! The bass are very pale from the stained water. The lake is about a foot higher than normal.

Private Lake Fishing Report: Kayaked and fished with my buddy Stephen. We boated around 30 bass, mostly largemouth. Stephen had one on a Lucky Craft Sammy 100 topwater and as he was reaching to lip it, a big musky hit the bass and swam off with it. Stephen fought the hooked bass with the musky attached. The 'ski looked to be in the mid-40s. I figure-eighted it next to the kayak with my spinnerbait to no avail. What an awesome sight! After the musky let go, Stephen got the bass ... which had some serious tooth marks in its back. My biggest bass was 20.75" on a black spinnerbait slow-rolled atop the weed line around 10:30 PM.

Shabbona Lake Fishing Report: Lots of kayaking, not a lot of catching. Boated six bass. Biggest 16.5" on a black spinnerbait with a copper blade. The lake was high and chocolaty from the rain and Indian Creek flooding in.

Private Lake Fishing Report: Had a wonderful Father's Day kayaking and fishing with the family. Stayed from 7:30 AM to 8:30 PM. Fished three different lakes. My oldest son boated 23 bluegills and a few yellow perch. My youngest son boated a small largemouth bass and a 19.75" smallmouth bass. I caught several largemouth bass, the biggest were around 18". I boated one small tiger musky on a black spinnnerbait and lost a monster bass that came off after two leaps. Looked in the 5-6 pound range. The boys enjoyed taking frequent breaks from kayaking and wading through the shallows to collect tadpoles and small fish. My wife brought a picnic lunch and enjoyed the leisurely kayaking and fishing adventure. Everyone had a great time. She bought me a new Nikon 55-200 zoom lens for Father's Day. We used that lens to take the photos below. So far, I love it!

Private Lake Fishing Report: Boated and fished with my buddy Stephen. Another great outing! Had a musky come off a mid-lake hump and blow up on my Lucky Craft Sammy 100 topwater, biting me off on the hookset. Luckily it spit out the Sammy and the lure floated up, affording me an easy retrieval. On a different lake, had a decent-sized fish rush the Sammy from the shallows. Turned out to be a tiger musky in the low 30s. Got a good hookset on it and fought it to the boat. It rolled several times and I tried to unhook it boat-side with some pliers but it ended up thrashing and breaking me off, taking my seasoned Sammy! Other decent catches were some fat 18" smallmouth and largemouth on topwater. Got a few others on the Terminator SS "white thumper" spinnerbait. Night bite not very good. Coronas were very good. Hot and humid evening and glad to be out on the water somewhere!

Private Lake Fishing Report: Boated and fished with my good friend Stephen from 6:30 PM until around 10:30 PM. Awesome topwater bite around sunset! I worked a Lucky Craft Sammy 100 topwater and boated over 20 bass. Biggest were a 20.5" largemouth, a 21" smallmouth, and a musky that was low 30s. The bite died when dark settled in and it got chilly. Some great fish though! Stephen worked a black Arbogast Hula Popper and was doing quite well with it. Lots of cottonwood on the surface in the smaller coves.
